The mobile medicine industry is developing rapidly around the world. This is evidenced by the emergence of specialized devices and applications. Remote monitoring and telemedicine, electronic patient records, as well as monitoring of pregnancy, heart function, sleep, and other vital processes are being actively introduced into the healthcare sector.
It is mobile medicine that may become that very “lifeline” for people living in third-world countries or for those who do not have access to constant medical care. A simple example is an HIV test, which can be taken using a smartphone in 15 minutes, without a large and expensive laboratory.
mHealth is not just a collection of new technologies, but something much greater. Mobile medicine implies a completely new way of interaction between a patient and a doctor. This field aims to simplify the process of receiving medical care itself, on the one hand by relieving doctors of routine operations (for example, filling out records), so that more time goes to diagnosis and treatment, and on the other hand by providing the patient with prompt and more effective communication with medical staff (without queues, etc.).
In addition, mobile applications significantly reduce costs in the healthcare sector, while improving the quality of services and treatment. Admit it, who among us has not thought about having a device that will monitor our diet, medication intake, and tell us when it is time to see a doctor? Well, dreams are starting to come true.
The access to information that mobile medicine offers will significantly facilitate data acquisition and speed up decision-making. Here are a few specific examples of the introduction of new technologies into medicine: – in Sweden, the Soarian Clinicals system is successfully operating, allowing remote monitoring of a patient’s condition, in particular taking readings from pacemakers. This saves patients from visiting the clinic for examinations (every six months). In addition, the device has increased sensitivity and responds to changes that even the patient himself cannot notice; – Care Innovations is a system that remotely supports patients with chronic diseases. It provides information about health status and necessary support, regardless of location. – Visi Mobile is a wearable system consisting of sensors that monitors health status and records deterioration in its indicators. Visi Mobile connects the patient with the attending physician in time;
On March 13, a major event dedicated to mobile medicine will take place in Moscow – M-Health Congress 2015. For the first time in Russia, doctors, businessmen, and high-tech developers will gather at one event to take part in a joint discussion of the prospects and opportunities opening up in the diagnosis and prevention of diseases, as well as in preserving human health with the help of modern innovative technologies.
