On October 26-27, 2015, in Moscow, at the congress center of the Izmailovo VEGA Hotel Complex, the I International Congress “Physiotherapy. Physical Therapy. Rehabilitation” was held, bringing together 553 specialists in the field of medicine. Leading specialists in medical rehabilitation, manual therapy, pediatrics, traumatology, orthopedics, surgery, rheumatology, balneology, physiotherapy, physical therapy, and sports medicine presented 138 reports and 10 master classes.
Congress organizers:
“Russian Society of Physicians of Restorative Medicine, Medical Rehabilitation, Balneology, and Physiotherapy” (hereinafter – ROV VMMRKF);
State Autonomous Healthcare Institution of the City of Moscow “Moscow Scientific and Practical Center for Medical Rehabilitation, Restorative and Sports Medicine” of the Moscow Healthcare Department (hereinafter – GBUZ MNPTs MRVSM DZM);
with the support of the Moscow City Health Department.
The scientific program of the Congress was designed so that all participants had the opportunity to gain new knowledge, share experience, and discuss their own developments in the field of medical rehabilitation, physical therapy, and physiotherapy with colleagues. The scientific Congress created an international platform for exchanging experience and improving the qualifications of healthcare specialists from Russia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Italy, and Latvia.

The Congress was opened with welcoming remarks to the delegates by the President of the Russian Society of Physicians of Restorative Medicine, Medical Rehabilitation, Balneology, and Physiotherapy, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, M.D. Alexander Nikolaevich Razumov: “Physiotherapy and physical therapy are the oldest fields in medicine. In essence, physiotherapists and physical therapy doctors are taking the baton from their colleagues who provide care to patients in orthopedics and traumatology, surgery and therapy, cardiology, and other related fields of medicine. Restorative medicine and rehabilitation are among the most important fields, whose successful development becomes possible only through the effective unification of efforts by all specialists in various areas of clinical medicine. And rehabilitation after illness is the main step on the path back to everyday life.” “At the same time, there are many unresolved scientific problems in physiotherapy, physical therapy, balneology — yesterday, today, and tomorrow — and those already solved yesterday require a more subtle interpretation today. The common key to these problems is seen in directing all scientific forces and resources toward solving fundamentally new and relevant tasks; without this, progress will remain only on paper and in colorful speeches.”
At the plenary session, reports were presented by the President of ROV VMMRKF, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, M.D. Razumov A.N.; Professor, M.D. Kiryanova V.V.; Professor, M.D. Ponomarenko G.N.; Professor, M.D. Turova E.A.; Vice President of ROV VMMRKF, Professor, M.D. Kulikov A.G.; Professor, M.D. Shushardzhan S.V.; and Professor, M.D. Efimenko N.V..

Vice President of ROV VMMRKF, Professor, M.D. Alexander Gennadievich Kulikov noted that “along with high-tech medical care, carefully considered and highly professional restorative treatment and rehabilitation are no less important. Without this final link in the treatment process, all technological power will have no effect.”
Within the framework of the Congress, a specialized exhibition was held, during which participants were able to familiarize themselves with modern achievements in the field of physiotherapy, physical therapy, and rehabilitation.
Other topics deserving great attention were also discussed at the Congress: the effectiveness of modern treatment methods in physiotherapy, the use of innovative technologies in the rehabilitation process of patients (modern light and laser therapy technologies, for example, the use of photochromotherapy, terahertz radiation), the development of new methods of health improvement at health resorts, and others.
Based on the results of the I International Congress “Physiotherapy. Physical Therapy. Rehabilitation.”, a final resolution was prepared and approved.
The first experience of holding such an event best demonstrated the need to develop relations among specialists not only in physiotherapy, physical therapy, and rehabilitation, but also in other fields.
