The All-Russian Doctors\u2019 Competition has been held for the fourteenth consecutive year, and for the first time this year the All-Russian Competition for Mid-Level Medical Workers was held.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The beginning of this tradition was laid in 2001, when the Ministry of Health, together with Medical Gazette and the Trade Union of Medical Workers, held the first All-Russian Competition of Professional Excellence among doctors.

\nOpening the solemn awards ceremony, Veronika Skvortsova said: \u201cEvery year the competition is gaining momentum and becoming more and more significant. It is held on the basis of a three-stage selection process; the medical teams themselves choose the best representatives from among those who have worked in the profession for at least 10 years and for at least five years in the medical organization that nominates them for the competition. The selection criteria are designed so that the nominees are professionals who have earned respect and recognition from colleagues and patients, possess the best human qualities, and put their heart and soul into their profession. Such professionals have been selected; there are 123 of them \u2014 winners in 41 categories, including 8 categories for mid-level medical workers.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Minister also noted that this year 27,000 more young people enrolled in medical colleges and schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is encouraging that young people are showing growing interest in medicine. For the first time in many years, the competition for admission to medical colleges has reached 6 people per place. This is especially important because the backbone of the healthcare sector, above all its primary care level, along with doctors, is made up of nurses and paramedics, whose work deserves no less respect. They are responsible for emergency medical care, rehabilitation, palliative care, and home visits,\u201d the Minister said. \u201cWe have done a great deal to attract young people. Together with the regions, we have completely re-equipped the educational facilities. Just like in medical universities, we have created training simulation centers where students practice skills on mannequins and using computer programs. The introduction of new educational programs required a higher level of training, and medical colleges are now welcoming truly capable young people who are committed to this profession.\u201d<\/p>\n

Congratulating the winners, Veronika Skvortsova emphasized that such competitions help to \u201cstrengthen the ranks of medical workers and raise the status of the profession of doctor and mid-level medical worker.\u201d<\/p>\n
